Eagle-eyed members of the congregation will have noticed that Anniesland Methodist Church in Bearsden Road has disappeared!
In its place will be retirement flats built by Sanctuary Housing, who provide sheltered, supported and social housing and already run a small estate round the corner in Tambowie Street.
The Methodist congregation are currently worshipping in the former gospel hall next door, which is home to the Storehouse Foodbank run by Glasgow Westend Vineyard, and will then take up residence in a worship space on the ground floor of the new building.
Rev Alan Anderson said: “We believe that working with a Housing Association to build retirement housing for the local elderly is a very good fit for us.
“For some years the Church has been suffering with the burden of looming repair bills for the aging church building. The purpose of the Methodist Church is to provide worship, evangelism and outreach, not to be a custodian of ancient buildings.”
