On Saturday 29th May 2022 a special Choral Evensong marked the retiral of Leslie Macleod as organist of All Saints.
The choir consisted of members of All Saints choir with friends from St Mary’s Cathedral choir and elsewhere.
The music was chosen by Leslie, who decided on this occasion to sing. Our new organist, Kieran Hunter, conducted and Tiffany Vong, organist of Jordanhill Parish Church, played as guest organist.
The two main item were Herbert Murrill‘s setting in E of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, a firm favourite at the Cathedral, and the anthem Fear not O Land by Herbert Sumsion – not the easiest to learn or sing. However, despite only one practice together before the service it all came together and everyone who participated enjoyed the service.
Tiffany Vong closed proceedings by playing JS Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in C Major, which was followed by appreciative applause.
Perhaps Leslie’s choice of Psalm 84 sums up his dedicated service to music in church:
‘Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be alway praising thee’
