The Right Reverend John Taylor, former rector of Holy Cross, Knightswood, and Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway from 1991-96, has died at the age of 89. His funeral took place on November 26 at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Kirriemuir. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Rt Rev John Taylor
Born in Aberdeen in 1932, Bishop John was educated at Banff Academy and the University of Aberdeen before studying at Edinburgh Theological College between 1954 and 1956.
He was ordained deacon in 1956, and priest in 1957. He was assistant curate at St Margaret’s Church in Aberdeen (1956-1958) and then curate (1958-1959) and rector (1959-1964) of Holy Cross Church in Glasgow. He then served as rector of St Ninian’s Church in Glasgow (1964-1973) and St John the Evangelist Church in Dumfries (1973-1991), his final appointment before his election as Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway in March 1991 and consecration in May 1991.
Bishop John retired in 1996 and became an honorary canon of St Mary’s Cathedral in 1999.
His funeral took place on November 26 at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Kirriemuir. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
